چکیده
Radio occultation (RO) measurement is an established technique for profiling planetary atmosphere/ionosphere. The accuracy of the derived physical parameters (atmospheric temperature, pressure, and density in lower atmosphere, electron ionosphere) however depends on uncertainty observed frequency robustness retrieval algorithm. objective this paper to identify all possible sources errors RO experiments their propagation retrieved atmospheric profiles. Quantification due assumptions used algorithm has also been attempted. We data from one-way downlink single-frequency (X-band) radio signals, transmitted science payload onboard Akatsuki spacecraft orbiting Venus received at Indian Deep Space Network, Bengaluru, India study. followed standard signal processing analyze raw data. Atmospiieric Profiles from Radio Occultation Measurements of Gps Satellites
Atmospheric profiles can be retrieved with techniques utilizing measurements of the propagation delay of signals from Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites observed by one or more receivers in low earth orbit. The. observations are made in a limb-sounding geometry when the radio path between the transmitter and receiver passes through the atmosphere. The various componen~s of the microwave...
متن کاملSystematic errors in atmospheric profiles obtained from Abelian inversion of radio occultation data: Effects of large-scale horizontal gradients
Reduction of radio occultation data to retrieve atmospheric profiles (T-p(r)) requires knowledge or assumption of the horizontal structure of the atmosphere. In the case of terrestrial planets the atmosphere in the vicinity of ray periapsides usually is assumed to be spherically symmetric. This assumption leads to an integral transform relationship between the profiles of refractivity versus ra...
متن کاملThe power of vertical geolocation of atmospheric profiles from GNSS radio occultation
High-resolution measurements from Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) radio occultation (RO) provide atmospheric profiles with independent information on altitude and pressure. This unique property is of crucial advantage when analyzing atmospheric characteristics that require joint knowledge of altitude and pressure or other thermodynamic atmospheric variables. Here we introduce and demo...
متن کاملThe Assimilation of Radio Occultation Measurements
GPS radio occultation (RO) measurements are a potentially important new source of profile information that can be used in numerical weather prediction (NWP). This paper outlines the options for assimilating the RO measurements into an operational NWP system. The importance of realistic estimates for the observation error estimates is discussed.
متن کاملDeriving atmospheric water vapor and ozone profiles from active microwave occultation measurements
The GPS/MET experiment was the first active atmospheric microwave occultation experiment using the existing GPS L1 and L2 frequencies to measure the atmospheric refractive index. One major limitation to this technique is that the presence of water vapor in amounts typically found in the lower troposphere (below 5-7 km) causes an ambiguity between the contributions of dry air and moisture to the...
